Many of Sumatra’s rare endemic birds, such as the Schneider’s Pitta, Sumatran Ground Cuckoo and Sumatran Trogon, can be found alongside charismatic birds such as the Rhinocerous Hornbills, Buceros bicornis, Anorrhinus Galeritus, Berenicornis comatus and the colorful barbet. Even the super rare bird Carpococcyx viridis has been encountered in the area through camera traps. You can observe birds right on the slopes of Mount Sorik Marapi which is in the Batang Gadis National Park area. This is a protected forest habitat.
